As Fox News explained on Thursday, Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, told The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg that “the Democratic Party and our liberal media and intellectual class have been a big part of the problem” for the efforts to “protect the planet.” Mr. Biden, who heads the Biden Institute in Delaware, was interviewed as part of a series of “thought leaders” who participated in Mr. Goldberg’s profile of Walter Isaacson, a former CEO of Time Warner and best-selling author. The magazine said that Mr. Biden “has repeatedly” criticized Democratic candidates for not supporting the energy agenda, including Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who is also a potential 2020 contender.
“Without the environment, there is no Democratic Party,” Mr. Biden told the magazine. “There is no progressive movement. There is no international program.”
“There is no Democratic Party without the environment,” Mr. Biden said, adding that “the Democrat has been complicit in putting the country in this position.”
Those remarks sparked a backlash.
Alex Howard, deputy editor of Politico, noted on Twitter that many “conservative” outlets chose to focus instead on a comment about the energy proposal from “a liberal” as opposed to Mr. Biden’s previous comment that “Trumpcare” was something that Republicans should apologize for. Mr. Howard also noted that the issue Mr. Biden is discussing is “critical to #GreenGuys and #GreenTeam movement.”
“If I had a son who made even a dime of money from politics, I’d wipe it out,” former Vice President Al Gore said on Twitter, in a tweet prompted by a Monday report from Politico detailing Mr. Biden’s decision to not engage on the issue.

Hunter Biden’s comments on the Democratic and left’s opposition to pipelines and nuclear energy is a bit odd. Pipeline opposition, based on non-emission fear, is really the reason fossil fuels are not on the market anymore. Just ask climate scientists. https://t.co/PsGh96A8mo — Brian Fallon (@brianefallon) October 11, 2018
