Most celebrities, whether they are actors, musicians or models, want to look as good as possible for their roles. The same is true for performers in other aspects of their lives, especially when they perform in front of audiences. In fact, a performer can find just about anything to add to his or her presentation, and at times it is really quite shocking. Author Marc Redford offers a glorious example of this in his newest novel, Witches in the Family.

There is a professor of Wicca, Anne Zlay of East Hampton, Conn., whose twin sister, Courtney, is the also aspiring Wiccan, while her identical twin, Shani, is practicing witchcraft. At the Witch and Wizard Festival, a magical celebration in Antigua, Shani meets just such a bizarre character who will become the catalyst for changing Shani and Anne’s lives forever.

The story of Witches in the Family is unique in that it exists in the near-future. Long before the production of the solar system or even the founding of mankind, an early colonization society on a planet called X0 has been formed. As one of these first colonists, Shani is tasked with finding the home for the new colony. For Shani, a vegan who refuses to do either man’s job because it is too “out there,” a suitable settlement for the colony ends up being nothing but a fantasy — a fantasy that could only come to pass after the arrival of a magical character.
